Our guest for April was Sacha Welch, of Citizens Advice Winchester District. We have worked with the organisation in previous years, and they had contacted us for an opportunity to update on their work.
Sacha explained that Citizens Advice Winchester District is a local, independent charity and part of a network of local Citizens Advice services across the country. Most of the workforce are trained volunteers and it relies on local grants and funding to deliver its service to the local community.
The presentation gave some pause for thought – it is tempting to see our area as relatively affluent, but benefits and debt are among the most often discussed problems. An interesting discussion followed after Sacha’s presentation about the charity’s work in Winchester, and she was pleased to answer questions.
Upcoming club events highlighted were the two fundraisers – the Murder Mystery evening on 9 May – and the sponsored walk on 1 June along the Watercress Way – flyers are available and are now available at every meeting.
The May Breakfast Meeting is on 21 May – with Jenny Muncaster of The Colour Factory.
