Our breakfast meeting on 19 August was slightly down on attendance – holiday season and hot summer no doubt! We were delighted to have as our guests, Hannah Henshaw of Winchester Repair Cafe and a prospective member, Tracey Done – who some of us recently met at the open evening.
After a brief run through of club business – including an account of the recent tidy-up at Unit 12 and notice from Colin Cook about the shoebox appeal – we heard from Hannah. Repair Cafes are expanding and from a small start, there are several thousand across the world. In Winchester there is one a month at present – at Badger Farm Community Centre and also at Littleton Village Hall. Hannah explained that all the repairers are volunteers and anything that be carried in can be repaired! The idea stems from the philosophy that waste ought to be avoided and what can be repaired should be.
