Breakfast meeting 17 January 2024

A well-attended meeting for the first of the New Year, in our regular breakfast meeting place of the Wessex Hotel. Rob Carter welcomed everyone and introduced Sam Jones, Assistant Vice-Chancellor at Winchester University, our speaker.

The major item of club news was the upcoming Pancake Races on Shrove Tuesday, this year 13 February, at the Cathedral. We need teams! Anthony Arkwright reminded everyone of the need to spread the word. We have details on all our social media pages, in the Hampshire Chronicle – but we need more publicity.

Sam then took us through the fascinating history of the University – which began as a school for poor children, before developing into the institution we know today. Our Rotary Scholar, Thomas Bwambale, was at the meeting and Sam said he was delighted to be involved in the process of brining Thomas to Winchester to study Computer Science.

Look out for details of our February breakfast – a great way to start the day – all welcome!

Sam Jones and Thomas Bwambale
