Breakfast meeting – 20 September 2023

Our September breakfast meeting was well-attended – almost back to pre-Covid levels.  A lively and interesting gathering, ably chaired by Rob Carter in his customary ebullient style!  Upcoming events were announced – the Clarendon Marathon, a car boot sale, World Polio Day and the “Walk a Mile” project – not forgetting of course the Round Table bonfire and fireworks on Saturday 4 November.

Reference was made to our very successful Youth Showcase a week earlier and the recent  launch of the Shoebox video at the Chesil Theatre – look out for this week’s Hampshire Chronicle!

Our speaker was Paul Snape – a man of many talents, invited by Steve Feeney.  Paul has worked in theatre, education and house management.

His description of life as butler at Castle Howard in North Yorkshire was fascinating and gave us a glimpse of life in a rarified world!  However, he is now working at and managing the Ronald McDonald House in Southampton.  The charity provides accommodation, free of charge, for the families of children receiving hospital treatment.  The majority of those needing help are those whose children are in the neonatal unit.
