Christmas Dinner evening 2024

Our Christmas dinner this year was held at the Mercure Wessex Hotel in the centre of Winchester on Monday 16 December. A good number of members and guests attended, including former Rotarian and past Mayor of Winchester, Eileen Berry; President of Winchester Inner Wheel, Sonia Carver; our Rotary Scholar Thomas Bwambale – and in particular “Theo the Magician”.

President Paul Russell kept business to a minimum, welcoming guests and in particular Rotarian Nick Bell, returning after major sugery and with a positive prognosis.

Following an excellent meal, efficiently served by the hotel staff, we were excellently entertained by Theo’s skill and sleight of hand – he made good use of several “willing volunteers”! Some of those present had memories going back as far as 2002, when Theo (a former Rotaract member and friend of Nick) provided the entertainment at President’s Night during Paul’s first term of office as President.

The sum of £270 raised from the raffle will provide a Christmas meal for 135 children under 13 at Muhokya IDP (Displacement Camp) which has existed for 5 years since the original flooding of the  Nayamwamba River in Kasese in 2020. This is still home to 180 families and on Saturday 21 December Kasese Snow Peaks Rotary will be organising a Christmas party with lunch provided by us with entertainment and decorations supplied by Rotary Club of Kasese Snow Peaks.

The evning ended with the parting toast and good wishes to all for Christmas and the New Year.
