Club Dinner Meeting 8 August 2022

President Deborah welcomed guests and members to our face to face dinner meeting on Monday 08 August. Our speakers were Richard Burnett, and his colleague, President Brian Thomas, both from Westbourne Rotary Club.

Among our guests was Thomas Bwambale, who introduced himself to the club. He is a young Ugandan student from Kasese Thanks to Nick Bell, who navigated the long and arduous pathway to obtaining a visa for Thomas, he is now safely here with us. He will be working as a volunteer, serving an internship for 3 months with TFSR, (Tools for Self Reliance) at their headquarters in Southampton. Thomas expressed his thanks and gratitude to Nick and the club for sponsoring him and for the hospitality he has enjoyed to date.

Following club business, including Winchester Rotary projects progress, President Deborah gave a concise update regarding our ongoing “Project Rotary” recent team meeting. Without losing all that is precious and proven, Deborah and her team have a vision of bringing the club forward into the future with a more modern image and outlook. It is very early days, there is much work to do and we have to progress slowly and wisely. Ultimately, it is the club membership who must give their approval and therefore make the final decisions.

Richard and Brian co-presented their experiences and advice relating to their own “Project Led Westbourne Rotary Club”. This club has no directors – but a Project Hub, which Richard coordinates.  All members are encouraged to bring their ideas/projects to the club. They must satisfy a set of criteria, or be modified to do so. There is an overall manager for the project hub.

New members are given something to do immediately. The number of council members is vastly reduced. The club makes frequent use of the internet, zoom, WhatsApp, and social media.

Their motto is achieve as much as you can with the resources you have. Westbourne is a small club – 27 members with 2 new ones about to join.We have nearly 60 members – our club is overflowing with talent, knowledge and experience – let us make the most of our gifts.
