Club Meeting 8 January 2024 – SGM and update from Unit 12

Our first meeting of the New Year was also the first at our new evening venue – The Winchester Hotel and Spa. Attendance was good and appreciative of the catering and surroundings.

President Les Haswell opened the meeting with reports and we then proceeded to a brief SGM to elect our President-Elect for the current year (2023-24) and consequently President 2024-25. There was one nomination for the post (Paul Russell, nominated by Robert Parsons and seconded by Les Haswell). In accepting the nomination, Paul (in his current role as Club Secretary) explained there would be a further SGM in March, to elect President-Elect 2024-25 and and also a Secretary for 2024-25.

Our speakers were Gill Driver and Lottie Clist from Unit 12 and Street Reach. They gave enthusiastic presentations about how Unit 12 aims to provide excellent learning opportunities for personal and skills development by building links with support services and working alongside professional performing arts organisations.

Street Reach delivers weekly outreach sessions in identified communities throughout Winchester, and runs a weekly youth club in Micheldever, to the north of Winchester, supporting young people living in this rural location. They build on this ‘core work’ by offering a range of drop-in projects and trips throughout the year, providing opportunities and activities that engage, inform and challenge young people.
