Food and Drink Quiz – 10 November 2023

On Friday 10th November Team Winchester Rotary for Uganda 2024 organised a Fundraising Quiz at Weeke Community Centre where 48 eager quizzers, many from outside Rotary, gathered to have their brain cells challenged over the  mouth watering topics of food and drink as well as their taste buds as there were also practical rounds which certainly spiced up the evening. Ian and Sally who had been sourced by Naz, (one of the members of the Team), put on an excellent quiz which certainly had us digging deep into our memories to try and work out the answers!!

A total of £980 was raised for the Team to take out to Uganda to work on the Projects they will be personally supervising and contributing to: such as building a classroom for the students of the final Year of a primary School we support, topping up the Education Project where individual Rotarians and friends support pupils to pay their school fees so they can complete their education, work on health projects to prevent, Malaria, HIV and Hepatitis, assist women in remote areas to earn a living through Microfinance and help the homeless young people by running a Music Project to have them engage again.

We were assisted in raising this sum due to the generosity of Weeke Community Centre Management who let us have the room free of charge and also themselves donated some clothes and reusable sanitary pads. Grateful thanks must go to Jenni the Centre Manager for her help and generosity in organising this.

We are also looking for children’s clothes; second hand suitcases and reusable sanitary pads to take with us to give to the children we support – please let us know if you can help in this respect.

We hope to organise another fundraiser before we go but in the meantime any donations would be gratefully received!! There is a button on the website under the heading “Donate” on the top left and then the drop down menu has a further button headed Uganda 2024. You can claim Gift Aid on these sums as donations, which boosts your donation by 25%
