Helping in the Local Community in Highcliffe Winchester

The Community Team decided to give £112 from their budget to help the local Highcliffe Community Forum put on a Fête and Fun Day on Sunday 19th July for adults and children. This sum paid for half the cost of hiring the local pavilion at Kind Edward V playing fields.

It was also decided to respond to their appeal for practical help, so Deborah and Nick went to the grounds on Sunday morning to assist in setting up. They soon found themselves untangling bunting, trying to get it to sit neatly on the various gazebos put up for the stalls. They now firmly believe they are fully qualified experts in this skilled job!

The stalls ranged from refreshments, to a bottle and raffle stall, plants, and a Boxing Club stall. Deborah showed great interest when we talked to the guys on the boxing stall – so I think we had better watch out! We both tried our hand at the bottle stall – Nick managed to win a couple of bottles of beer, which unfortunately did not cover his original stake, but that’s not the point, is it?!

Giving our help followed the Community Team’s intention to assist to a greater extent this year in other community group’s projects. This is so much easier for us now our numbers are more limited.

Winchester Rotary have gained some publicity from this as we are already named as funders in the coverage in this week’s Hampshire Chronicle.
