Hi-vis and visitors from afar

A largely informal 4th Monday dinner, where we were joined by Mark Bulwicz (pronounced Bull-wits), an American Rotarian from the Rotary Club of Dun Laoghaire (pronounced Dun Leary), Dublin, Ireland, and his wife Geraldine. They had just returned from a cruise to the Canaries on the Queen Victoria.

Mark had visited the UK many times in the past, being a great fan of British sports cars, and having attended university in Coventry, but in nearly 50 years he hadn’t managed to make it to Winchester, or in particular the Cathedral.

There were just two items of business:

  • Deborah’s request for reading glasses for the team to take to Uganda: Colin abley assisted by his model Ian, demonstrated some standard reading glasses that he had purchased from Poundland at a cost of £3 for 3 pairs! Apparently there is a rack of them on the far right of store at the front
  • Hi-Vis tabards: I modelled the sample tabard that meets the new regulations, which includes our club logo, along with my name, as can be seen in the photographs. Nearly everybody took the opportunity to try it on, concluding that they would probably need a size larger than they had originally been thinking. The one I obtained was a Large, and I will send out the form for requesting a personalised tabard again, so that members wanting one can make their choices. I may well order an XL for those occasions where I’m wearing a coat and need a bit more room.

Finally, I reminded everyone of the key, upcoming events:

At the end of an evening of great craic, we wished our guests a safe journey home, Chris providing them with a lift back to their hotel.

See here for more photos from the evening.
