Along with Dave and Anna Stewart, I visited IBM’s Hursley Park estate on August 19th to check on the disease resistant Elm trees that we planted there 3 years ago.
Apart from the one we lost very early on, the rest are in reasonable health. A few have grown very well. Some are clearly suffering from the local deer population’s attention.
All in all, we came away feeling they were in pretty good shape, considering where they are, and what they have to put up with.
While there, we could not miss the Hursley clubhouse. You may be aware it tragically burned down on the night of August 8th.
For me personally, it held over 40 years of great memories. These included children’s Christmas parties, interdepartmental sporting activities, and all of the promotion, celebration, and leaving dos, plus of course the Rotary events we’ve held there. It is a great loss.
