A good attendance for our “4th Monday” October meeting, at our regular venue, The Golden Lion pub on Alresford Road. We were pleased to welcome President Mark Butcher back from his well-earned break following the District Conference. There were a few club announcements: a visit to Wonderseekers by Ian White and Dave Stewart who were enthralled by the visit (do read Ian’s blog!); Christmas shoebox sorting – masterminded by Colin Cook – we are on target for over 700 this year!; and the crocus planting for World Polio Day – which raises awareness, more than funds – helped this year by the attendance of our MP, Dr Danny Chambers – who joined the planting team for almost an hour!
There then followed a “My Life” talk from one of our newer members, Peter Dingley. Peter retired in 2020, following a career as a senior executive in the space industry. Over the years, his work took him overseas, including Italy and Canada and he worked for firms such as Plessey, Marconi and Inmasat. Before retirement, he was an Independent Consultant for the MOD, working as a strategic advisor on contract negotiations. He and his wife Alison live in Olivers Battery and have three grown-up children. A very interesting career – and an entertaining presentation – using AI to produce “space-themed” slides!
Peter also volunteers at Hinton Ampner – and is an enthusiastic member of our Environment Team. We are very pleased to have him among our number.
