Lend with Care 5 year report

We started involvement with Lend with Care, part of Care International, in September 2020 with a £30 loan to a farming cooperative in Rwanda, and our latest on July 30th, our 996th  – a  £30 loan to a hairdresser in Zambia.

The money we lend, once repaid is then leant to other fledgling businesses worthy of our support, and so the money goes around.

Over this period the International Committee has made regular £500 payments – normally twice a year into our LwC account.

Money actually loaned over past FIVE years£27,119
Repaid£22,513
Difference£4,606*

*This includes some £1,145 currency exchange rate losses (over past 5 years) which are an inevitable cost, so in practice we can only anticipate £3,461 in future repayments.

The Total amount the club has invested in Lend with Care is £5,807.  Of this £1,168 has gone in donations to LwC’s running costs, which are made monthly with our loans.

We are asked to make a small donation each month to support the work of Lend with Care, which I try and keep as low as respectable.

So the true amount that has been invested in loans is £4,639 of which £1,145 is accounted for in currency exchange losses over the five year period.  This leaves  £3,494 working capital, which is currently out on loans.

The mathematicians amongst you will see that the total difference between club money invested and that available credit today,  comprising donations AND currency fluctuations, is around £2,313 for the five year period.

This represents the true running cost to the club of  roughly £460 p.a.  For this we have helped 4,182 individuals with the 996 loans. (Or 836 people for £460 a year )

As you can see, ~£3,500 is still effectively due back into our working account at the end of the loans – plus our current credit balance of £2.71 = £3,502.71 – (were we not to make any more loans this could be withdrawn and returned to the club.)

This month I have just made 16 loans totalling £450 plus a £20 donation,   Last month following a club input of a further £500, I placed  29 loans totalling £870 plus a £30 donation.

Loans made to end of July 2025   TOTAL 996.

I hope that these figures will show, not only the tremendous amount of good we are doing in helping developing and underprivileged countries, but that these 996 (£27,119) loans have been carried out with relatively low cost to the club.
