Winchester is fast becoming known as a city of festivals – and at our most recent breakfast meetings we heard about two. Sian Searles joined us in March – she is one of the founders and organisers of the Winchester Books Festival. As a result of her talk, several members were encouraged to attend some of the excellent events, hearing from writers such as Sir Tony Robinson, Jon Sopel and Lynda La Plante.
In May we heard from Stephanie Swann, founder of the Winchester Garden Festival which runs from 19 June to 5 July. A number of events and visits are to take place over the Winchester District. We also learnt that Stephanie was the driving force behind the now famous Christmas Market when it was first established.
Two very interesting speakers, reminding us of the variety of events and opportunities in our historic city.
