New Forest Rotary Golf Day 07 September 2023

New Forest Rotary’s 36th Annual Golf Day was held on Thursday 07 September, to which Winchester Rotary was invited to take part. It was a most enjoyable day.

In the end, only Giles Peck and Richard Spalding from Winchester took part. As the event was for teams of four, the invitation was opened up to the other clubs in our Group, with the final two places taken up by Martin Fielder of Basingstoke Deane Rotary and his son-in-law, James Silcox.

The day started with bacon butties, coffee and registration on what was another of those unusually hot September days. The format was a ‘shotgun’ start, which means that all teams were allocated to start at the same time but on different holes, with a klaxon sounding at 1pm for the first shot of the day from each team.

16 teams took part, and with James showing us the way with a handicap of just 6, we came a not unreasonable 9th overall. Though we all felt we could have played better, of course! – but that’s golf!

In the early evening there was a two course buffet, a raffle with numerous prizes and an auction for those of higher value.

Overall, it was a very successful event. Maybe it is worth Winchester trying to have another go at running a similar event?
