On Wednesday 22 October, our breakfast guest was Anna O’Brien of Winchester Radio. Anna is a former member of Winchester Rotary, and we were delighted to welcome her. Particularly as we have recently embarked on a new project – a monthly podcast on our activities, broadcast by Winchester Radio.
Anna took us through the history of the charity – emphasising that it is first a charity and secondly a radio station, having begun as Winchester Hospital Radio (many local radio stations began in this way). It was a fascinating “canter through” history – and Anna closed with a reminder that our own Steve Feeney was a founder member of Winchester Hospital Radio – and set up the new podcast.
We also welcomed two visitors from Australia, Peter and Jeannette Harrison, from Perth. Peter and Jeannette were guests of Nick Bell visiting Winchester for a few days. Both former Rotaractors, Peter was also once a Rotarian. Club announcements included our crocus planting for “End Polio Now” on Saturday 25 October – and both were amused by Gill Russell’s “polio koala” – koalas not teddy bears in Australia!
And of course the Round Table bonfire and fireworks is fast approaching – volunteers still required!
