Our Rotary Scholar Goes Visiting Around Rotary

During the last week of March Thomas Bwambale, our Rotary Scholar, presently reading Computer Science at Winchester University, attended three Rotary meetings.

Starting in Winchester on Monday evening he heard the fascinating talk presented by Dr Brian Klaas on the topic of “We get the Leaders we deserve.”

On Wednesday evening Nick took him to Marlow Thames Rotary where they gave a joint presentation with Thomas as Lead and Nick as Assistant Speaker(!), on the way in which the scholarship had been set up and developed, together with the work that Winchester Rotary and Thomas had done with Great Lakes Peace Centre. There was an audience of 30 plus Rotarians with some joining from Maidenhead Rotary; all were eager to learn how these connections were fostered. They expressed a great interest in working with us to develop these links.

Then on Thursday Nick and Thomas attended Southampton Magna Rotary where they listened to a fascinating talk from Dave King, Editor of the Rotary Magazine, who told us how to get Rotary’s message out there in a modern and vibrant way – with Thomas finding a lot of useful tips for promoting Rotaract.

Nick was presented with a cheque from a Trust Fund connected with Southampton Magna as a contribution towards Thomas’s scholarship fund. This was a surprise bonus!
