Playing wild at the Science Centre

On the afternoon of Thursday, July 16th, Dave Stewart and I, along with my wife Kelsie, attended the Wonderseekers Charity “Play wild” event at the Winchester Science Centre, for the opening of their brand new outdoor areas, relating to dinosaurs and chalk streams.

Opened by local MP Dr Danny Chambers and 2 young people from their Young Steering Group, the transformation of the outdoor spaces in such a short period of time has been amazing.

Attended by hundreds of adults and children with a wide variety of connections to the centre, the atmosphere was brilliant, and I was very privileged to be given a sneak preview. This was partly because the hide that we have funded has been repositioned to a new, higher point which happens to overlook the new dinosaur park.

Dave and I were presented with a lovely thank you card, recognising the Club’s support and looking forward to an ongoing relationship:

We have recommended that they should organise some adults only evenings, so that we can get the opportunity to enjoy the exhibits just as much as the children clearly were.

Dave and I also took the opportunity to put two of the new Winchester Rotary metal tags onto the hide. The tags having been purchased by the environment team, primarily for their bird box and disease resistant Elm tree projects.

The BBC have published this article about the chalk streams play zone.
