Rotary Group 4 Presidents’ Meeting 14 Sept 22

I attended a most convivial, lively and productive meeting on 14 September at the Holiday Inn, Basingstoke for all 7 Presidents of Rotary District 1110 Group 4.

The Assistant Governor for Group 4 (Mid & North Hants) is our very own Richard Spalding, who took up the interim role in this January and formally from July. The role is expected to last for 3 years, though he has to be re-elected annually. Amazingly, he managed to get all 7 of the Presidents together in the same room at the same time.

As well as getting to know each other and hearing updates from all Clubs, Richard led a 40-minute flip chart brainstorm on 3 areas of best practice: how to attract younger members, ideas for environment projects, use and benefits of social media. We also discussed how best to communicate between Presidents and support each other – a WhatsApp group has now been established for the 7 Presidents. We discussed District’s new Membership Development initiative. We looked at the format for future meetings – 4 per year alternating face to face and zoom, the first 2 for just the Presidents, with the Presidents Elect joining for the latter 2 in the new calendar year. We also started exploring whether leads for different specific areas might hold their own meetings to share best practice and consider development opportunities – watch this space on this new idea.
