Senior Citizens Tea Party 29 April 2023

It was with great pleasure that Winchester Rotary was able to welcome over 60 guests to our annual Senior Citizens Tea Party. Due to Covid restrictions we have been unable for 2 years to offer hospitality to our local Senior Citizens.

President Deborah Macartney welcomed the Mayor, Cllr Angela Clear, who mingled with guests throughout the afternoon.

The centre piece for the event was the delicious tea always provided by the ladies of Winchester Inner Wheel. Our guests enjoyed a variety of delicious sandwiches, irresistible home made cakes and copious cups of tea. Our thanks to the ladies of Inner Wheel for making the tea party so enjoyable for our guests and Winchester Rotary members present.

Rotarian Giles Peck started the afternoon’s entertainment with a lively bingo session. Due to the very amusing titles which Giles always gives to the numbers, there was much laughter, and there were also many serious faces concentrating on their number cards.

A raffle brought much enjoyment and appreciation by the winners for the many lovely prizes donated by Rotary members and their friends.

After tea we were entertained by the delightful French singer, Muriele, who has shared her songs with us at other Rotary social events. She sang a variety of French and English songs. One of our guests, who spoke French, joined in the singing. Finally, a few intrepid dancers among our guests were tempted onto the dance floor – President Deborah among them.

Our thanks to the mayor for her support and company, to Rotarian Sandra Lewis for organising the afternoon, our guests and their carers for coming, for all those who provided transport, and everyone who helped to make the tea party an enjoyable and fun event.

We look forward to next year’s Senior Citizens Tea Party.
