Sophie Swan to the Rescue – Book Sales to support Winchester Hospice

Due to Rotarian Richard Spalding’s negotiating skills, Winchester Rotary was granted 2 sales days at Tescos Winnall site and a day at Sainsbury’s Badger Farm site, to sell copies of Sophie Swan to the Rescue, in support of Winchester Hospice.

Sales at Tescos were a little less than hoped for. We were stationed at the end of the shopping line, near the exit. Judging by the downcast expression on the faces of many of the shoppers as they passed us by, we had the distinct impression that not a penny more could be spent.

However, all the money donated by shoppers was very gratefully received and appreciated. Times are hard financially for many families.

Sainsbury’s was a brighter experience. We were better placed, near the entrance, before shopping started.  Shoppers were smiling – not yet dismayed by the high cost of their weekly, essential food shopping.

Nick Bell managed to fill all the volunteer sales slots.  Our thanks and appreciation for so much help so willingly given.

The total raised during the 3 days was £1981.79

In addition, friends have supported the hospice through personal Sophie sales and other money has been paid into the Winchester Rotary CAF Cash Account. We can safely say that over £2,000.00 has so far been raised in support of our President Les’s chosen charity.
