We’re delighted to support the Highcliffe community’s plan to hold a street party on 20th July, 2025 to the tune of £300, which will be used for refreshments and materials to be used in activities on the day. Note: it has been moved from the 19th, due to residents needing vehicular access for work on the Saturday.
This is in addition to £500 being provided through local County Councillor and fellow Rotarian, Dominic Hiscock.
We may in due course be asked for help on the day, e.g. to manage traffic.
The explanation from the organising team below helps to explain why this is an important local community project worthy of our support:
Project outline
To organise a fun, family-orientated community street party with an eco-theme, in a closed section of the road in Gordon Avenue. Children’s activities (including a children’s craft workshop using recycled materials run by Junk Jodie), food, decorations, stalls and acoustic live music.
Open to all residents of Gordon Avenue, Fivefields Road and Nelson Road (150 expected). Organised by a group of local residents with the support of the Highcliffe Community Forum for Action, a long-standing resident’s group.
The aim is to improve community cohesion in a diverse area with a high proportion of social housing. Most households are in Output Area E00118173 which ONS census data describes as a ‘challenged community’. It will provide an opportunity for residents to get to know each other better in an informal and relaxed setting. Strengthening these connections will encourage better communication and support among neighbours, helping to build a more resilient community.
Residents will be encouraged to make street decorations in a series of workshops held in the run up to the event.
