The Shoebox Journey….

Our shoeboxes are now packed and on their way!  They were delivered to the District Depot on 12 November.  The operation was masterminded by Colin Cook, with the boxes checked and prepared by President Deborah, Sandra Lewis, Eliza Bruml, Nick Bell, Diana Brooks, Robert Parsons – and Thomas Bwambale.

In addition to the 35 cartons of shoeboxes, another four cartons of locally knitted jumpers were included.   The jumpers, as in previous years, were donated by Hilary Dunwoody from Alresford Lace Makers, Four Marks WI and Kings Somborne Fete Committee and their friends,

Seven local schools participated: St Bede’s, Compton All Saints, St Faith’s CE, Western, Weeke and Kings Worthy primary schools and Henry Beaufort School. and there was increased support from new donors.

Colin and Tony Catesby took a total of 561 boxes from Winchester to the Depot at Bournemouth Airport – our boxes joined in excess of 18,000 others destined for Albania, Moldova, Montenegro, Romania and this year also Ukraine. 400 boxes came from the schools and the rest from individual donors.
