It is unbelievable that Thomas has been with us at Crowded House for 13 months. During this time he has completed his first Foundation Year of his degree course in Computer Science at Winchester University.
It was decided he would stay at Crowded House for 1 year as the cost of visas, NHS supplements, flights and initial costs were too much for the Scholarship Fund to cover.
We have thoroughly enjoyed having him where he has certainly reduced the average age in the house as well as increased the enthusiasm and technical knowledge when technology goes wrong. I can assure you he has been a model guest.
However, we decided with him that it was time to spread his wings. Through diligent, hard work at Tesco Express, working unsocial hours, he has managed to save enough money to pay for half his accomodation costs in University Halls. He will earn the rest this year.
This weekend Thomas moved out, so we threw a drinks party for 20 Rotarians, their partners and friends to wish him well for his future. Those attending contributed in kind or with a donation towards the ‘set up’ costs for his new venture. After a lively party we all made the ‘long journey’ up to the King Charles for a ‘last supper’, continuing the lively and enjoyable evening.
The next day Thomas was up at 05.00 for his 06.00 shift at Tesco Express in Andover, where he has now transferred. We then moved him into his room in Halls in the afternoon. I am sure he will soon settle in as ‘before’ and ‘after’ photos of his room show!
Finally, we have collected sufficient funds for his 2024/25 fees. We now need to start on the 2025/26 fees so we can ensure they are ‘in the bag’ before next September. I have a few standing orders, but more would be very welcome. They are the easiest way to give and accumulate and of course attract gift aid.
