WinACC’s Community Solar project supported by Rotary

Back in March, the Environment team decided to give Winchester Action on the Climate Crisis (WinACC) £1,000 in support of the Community Solar project they’re running across the entire Winchester District on behalf of the City Council.

The program is designed to help local community groups with the design and implementation of Solar PV (Photovoltaics) on appropriate community buildings under their management. Helping them through the red tape and ultimately to obtain grants through the city council to cover significant proporations of the cost.

When instigated, it was expected that the program would generate interest from fewer than 10 community groups, which was manageable within WinACC’s resources. However, they have so far had interest from over 20 such groups, severely overstretching their resources and hence the need for extra funding to pay people with the right skills to do the work.

WinACC’s report (below) outlines what has been done with the £1,000, which will be of great benefit to the Upham community and the environment in general:

A very interesting report and so good to know that Winchester Rotary is suporting our local environment projects.

I particularly appreciated the report on now our donation was being implemented. To know how our donations are being used to the benefit of the organisation to which we have donated is important. It gives encouragement to us to donate further to them when they return to us for further help.

Thank you Mark and your Environment team for an excellent update.
    Diana
