Winchester Rotary Club Assembly 9 June 2025

President Paul wecomed Ed Burt, Assistant District Governor for District Group 7 and also a member of Eastleigh Rotary Club, together with Nikki Day, Worthy Down Liaison Officer.

The evening began, with a request by President Paul to Steve Feeney to speak to us on the subject of Leadership. It soon became clear that he was referring to one of our highly regarded members. The occasion was the award of a Paul Harris Fellowship to Maggie Hastie. For many years Maggie, as our Youth Team Leader, has demonstrated her impeccable qualities as a leader of purpose, judgement, warmth and encouragement to all of us who work with her. She has lead and supported many projects through Winchester Rotary, giving children and young people a little extra in their vulnerable lives. She is a delight to work with and we offer her our warm congratulations as a recipient of this prestigious award.

Mark Butcher, our President Elect, led Club Assembly. He gave us a brief insight into his family background, his professional life at IBM, his plans for our club during his forthcoming presidency. He warned us that the Davy Foundation money that we have been privileged to receive for many years has come to an end. We will now have to work hard as a club to raise funds for our charitable causes.

Team leaders then gave their reports, outlining our achievements during the past year and our plans for the future.

Ed Burt very kindly congratulated us on our communication and presentation skills, also our many projects, remarking that as a club he felt we truly upheld one of the key principles of Rotary worldwide – ‘Service Above Self’

The date for the Handover Meeting is Monday 23rd June at the Golden Lion
