Winchester Rotary Firewalk – 09 June 2023

The Winchester Rotary Firewalk, Friday 09 June, led by President Deborah, her last fundraising event during her presidency, in support of two charities providing sanctuary for women and children who find themselves the victims of domestic abuse – Trinity Women’s Services and Hope Street (One Small Thing).

Scott Bell, founder of UK Firewalk, invited Deborah to “Light my fire” – a huge, long pile of logs, prepared by his hot, hardworking wife, Diane.

Could we take the heat, overcome the fear? Of course we could! A brave group of our members together with Trinity and Hope Street volunteer fire walkers, braved the hot coals to raise funds for the two charities. Many club members and friends were there to cheer us on and take photographs.

We all proved our defiance of the flames and with the exception of the odd blister, everyone survived unscathed.

It was a fun evening, full of laughter and friendship.

So far, Winchester Rotary has raised nearly £3,000.00. There are many other donations to be accounted for so – at the moment we do not have a final total.

Our thanks to President Deborah, our club members and all our friends and family who, once again, have shown kindness and generosity to help yet another group of vulnerable people within our community.
