Wonderseekers – Club charity for Rotary year: 2025-26

Given my personal interests in the environment (Science in general to be honest) and supporting Young People, I have been working with the Winchester Science Centre, run by the Wonderseekers charity over the past year.

The point being to see whether there was any possibility of collaboration between them and Winchester Rotary. No surprise, there is plenty of opportunity!

We are considering supporting them with their “Our place on Earth” project, which will build a completely new exhibition describing the environment, the damage that has been done to it, and what we can do to stop and repair that.

That is subject to funding from the Lottery fund, so in the meantime we are looking at other projects, for example funding a hide which will enable the children to safely observe the wildlife around the Science Centre, in particular across the 8 acres of chalk downland that have been gifted (Long term lease) by their neighbours Arqiva. We have applied for a District Grant to help cover the cost of this. Fingers crossed!

The images to the right show what the hide might look like, and per the requirements for receiving a District Grant, we will be helping to build it, assuming the plan comes together.

We will be receiving a presentation about the Science Centre from Peter Burch, their Head of Major Gifts. This will be as part of our 2nd Monday meeting on September 8th.
