Magnificent Meadows – Hay Making July 26th

We are approaching our next hay making window Fri 25th July – Fri 1st August.

Due to the drought and heatwaves, meadow seed is maturing two weeks earlier than usual. Therefore the plan is to harvest wildflower, grass seed and transfer green hay during this period too. We will take a flexible approach as the weather will be a key part of the planning and we can’t be certain about that yet.

There are 3 sessions on this day.  Scythes are only required for the first session, and you must be trained to participate in that:

• 8am – 11am: Mowing Hay using scythes
• 12pm – 4pm: Spreading and turning Hay (Scythes not needed for this)
• 6pm – 8pm: Turning hay & turning in windrows (Scythes not needed for this)

We will be working on a different section of Cowslip Meadow

What to bring: Leather gloves, safety glasses, drink, snacks, long sleeved shirts, closed toe shoes and your own scythe by arrangement with Rachel (if you have one)
