Event details

By Richard (any questions to me)
It has been agreed that Winchester Rotary can have a takeover at the parkrun on Saturday 2 August on the North Walls recreation park, including manning our gazebo. And we need about 10-14 volunteers altogether to help out, in a number of different roles.
Please could you register in the comments section by 24 July, stipulating what you’d like to do:
- Marshal
- Man the gazebo (and or assemble/disassemble), ideally for the whole event, though do indicate if can only be there for part of it
- Photographer
This will be for two purposes:
- To support JJ and his team of mainly runners to promote the annual Rotary Clarendon Marathon on 5 October
- To publicise what we do, how we do it and hopefully attract interest from runners with a view to increasing our membership and volunteer base
There will be cakes (small bites) for the runners. And for volunteers!
Roles:
- Marshalling: about 4 marshals are needed, even if having to wear parkrun tabards. But these marshals may not be needed if enough others volunteer for this anyway.
- Manning the gazebo, 6-10 volunteers are needed to:
- Assemble the gazebo, feather flags, pop-up banners, tables, trifolds and other info (between 8.00-8.45am) near the finish
- Man the gazebo (9-10am)
- Remove the gazebo at 10am
- Take photos
- Taking photos: to capture the action for social media etc.
Manning the gazebo will involve telling runners enthusiastically about Rotary, showing/giving them some of the publicity info and even getting them to register interest on some of the sign up sheets – as we did at the Hat Fair. And giving out cakes. But, unlike the Hat Fair spread over a number of hours, potentially we could get the interest of 100s of runners in the space of an hour, hence we need the numbers of volunteers. Typically about 500+ runners now take part weekly. We won’t be collecting donations.
JJ is also identifying some runners to assist him, mainly at the finish. He will make an announcement to the assembled runners just before the start, both about the Clarendon and about Rotary and the gazebo. He will then be at the finish, giving out finish tokens and pointing runners towards the gazebo to learn more about the Clarendon and about Rotary.
It will be helpful if everyone taking part, especially in the gazebo, is wearing Rotary yellow shirts or Clarendon yellow shirts.

I will help collect the gazebo, assemble it, man it and disassemble/return it.
I can attend at River River Park, help set up gazebo, chat to the punters and help dismantle gazebo
Sorry, away that weekend
Alexei Mostibrotski – father of one of the Young Artist winners who was at our last dinner meeting would like to help. Currently best contacted via Ian while when rota drawn up etc
Sorry Richard and JJ, I am not able to help – It is a Friends of St Giles Hill Graveyard workday.
Although it says event is closed I intend to help at the Gazebo
I will be able to put up the gazebo at 8.15 am but someone else will need to take it down and return it to Dominic’s garage as I have another commitment in Winchester at 9.45 am.
Apologies -away
Can take photos – and don’t mind whether marshalling or helping at gazebo
How close would i be able to park to gazebo ? if close happy to help – have mobility issues at the moment – cheers
Hi Mike, I think we are ok for numbers now and there would be quite a bit of standing around any way. Richard
Ok thanks for letting me know … Enjoy event !
