CANCELLED – NO GAZEBO OR PROMOTING OF ROTARY, JUST OF CLARENDON MARATHON
It has been agreed that Winchester Rotary can publicise the Clarendon Marathon at the parkrun on Saturday 2 May on the North Walls recreation park, mainly manning our gazebo. And we need about 8 volunteers altogether to help out. We will not need anyone to be a marshal. The short notice is regretted but the opportunity has only just presented itself, and is too good to miss.
Please could you register for this by 29 April, stipulating what you’d like to do and what time period you can be there:
1. Manning the gazebo, 6-10 volunteers are needed to:
- Assemble the gazebo, feather flags, pop-up banners, tables, trifolds and other info (between 8.00-8.45am) near the finish
- Man the gazebo (9-10am)
- Remove the gazebo at 10am
2. Taking photos: to capture the action for social media etc.
This will be for two purposes:
- To support JJ and his team of mainly runners to promote the annual Rotary Clarendon Marathon on 4 October
- To publicise what Rotary does, how we do it and hopefully attract interest from runners with a view to increasing our membership and volunteer base – and giving out flyers and Annual Reviews
It will be helpful if everyone taking part, especially in the gazebo, is wearing Rotary yellow shirts or Clarendon orange shirts.
Manning the gazebo will involve telling runners enthusiastically about Rotary, showing/giving them some of the publicity info and even getting them to register interest on some of the sign up sheets. Potentially we could get the interest of 100s of runners in the space of an hour, hence we need the numbers of volunteers. Typically about 500+ runners now take part weekly. We won’t be collecting donations.
JJ is also identifying some runners to assist him, mainly at the finish. He will make an announcement to the assembled runners just before the start, both about the Clarendon and about Rotary and the gazebo. He will then be at the finish, giving out finish tokens and pointing runners towards the gazebo to learn more about the Clarendon and about Rotary.

Assuming still on, I will aim to get there for 9:00am, which can include bringing sign-up forms (General and specific for the sponsored walk), new tabards for those attending that need them and the little magazine rack that Dave Stewart provided including annual reports, flyers, etc. (https://drive.google.com/file/d/1aA3goUNPgaa2Ma5h4l5lHPVpFu51R_ON/view?usp=sharing) I will need to leave on or before 10:00am as I want to get to the graveyeard, where I haven’t managed to make in months. I have been thinking about creating A3 posters for the sponsored walk and the AMR presentation, but I’m running out of time today. Please let me know if the above will be needed, as it’s quite a bit to carry, plus somebody else may need to take it away, and I’ll collect it in due course.
