Event details

Volunteers from the Twyford Waterworks Trush will give us a tour of the Waterworks which is a Scheduled Ancient Monument.  Drinking water has been extracted from the Chalk aquifer, softened, and supplied to the Winchester area for over 120 years.

Volunteers will guide up around the restored Babcock & Wilcox water-tube boiler Hathorn Davey pumping engine. We will also see the lime kilns located above the main works and the industrial narrow gauge railway.

There is also a wildlife trail around the three acre site which includes a wildlife pond.

Bring a picnic lunch. Tea or coffee will be served during the visit.
