Event details
Information from Winchester City Council – The organisers of the event:
This event will be taking place at the Pavilion at Winchester Cathedral and will be open to the public from 11am – 4pm. We are running this event to engage with local residents about sustainability in a range of areas (energy, nature, transport, waste etc) and provide them with information/guidance about ways they can incorporate this into their everyday lives. I thought that this might be a good way to share the environment projects that the Rotary have been involved in and potentially look for volunteers for the next tree planting season.
We will be providing tables and chairs, so we are just asking stallholders to bring any materials that they need. We are hoping that this will be an event that families will come along to so please bring any interactive material that will engage children.
Notes for members volunteering to help:
- Whilst our focus will clearly be on our Environmental efforts, we will have materials about everything that we do. We will in particular looking to get people to sign-up for or take details of our upcoming efforts, including tree planting, youth competitions, etc. in the hope that through volunteering, they may then think positively towards membership.
- The exact location of the event is the Pavilion, a permanent marquee situated behind The Refectory and accessed via the path between the Catherdral shop and The Refectory.
- Whilst we’re dividing the day up into 1 hour slots to maximise flexibility, it would be ideal if folks could help for two hours to ensure coverage across the day.
- Ideally we want two people manning our table at all times, and can cope with a third.
- The initial session: 10:00-11:00 will be for set up only.
- The final session: 16:00-17:00 will be for clean-up only.

May be able to also do part of the 2.00 – 3.00 slot but not sure how much (up near Reading in the morning).
Thanks Paul! Diana and Les have now volunteered to cover 2:00 til 4:00. Just have to find cover for 12:00 til 2:00, plus somebody to work alongside me on the first two hours, and somebody to work alongside you for the last hour, though that is primarily a clearing up period after 16:00, which may be done in 10 minutes or so if things go well.
What a great initiative, regretfully it is the same day as my Goddaughter’s wedding so unfortunately I cannot help
Thanks Robert! Enjoy the wedding.
Away again, I’m afraid.
Hi Mark, I have ticked all of the boxes so that you can fill holes in the rota. Not expecting to stand there all day.
Thanks Dave, I can’t actually see a booking for you. Would you mind trying again. I’ll be happy if you can cover the 12:00-13:00 and 13:00-14:00 slots. Then we just need to find one more person to be alongside you, as Gill has now kindly volunteered to work alongside Paul at the end of the day.
I’ll come along at 9.30 to help set up. Agreed that Mark will take down the banner for use the following week at Olivers Battery.
