Since 1947, Rotary Clubs in Georgia USA have joined together to fund scholarships in universities across the state.  These scholarships are for overseas students and last for one academic year.  The founder of the scheme, Georgia Rotarian William A Watt of Thomasville, was keen to promote peace in a fractured world by inviting students from across the world to study for a year in the States.

Winchester Rotary encourages local students to apply for the programme and we’ve successfully sponsored a student each year for a number of years.  Our sponsorship is to be used as a contribution to flights and medical insurance.

Each year, we visit local colleges, here in Winchester, to give a presentation to students who might be interested in taking part in the scheme.  Steve Feeney, our GRSP Co-ordinator, has recorded the presentation so that you have a good idea what to expect and what you might be committing to.

UPDATE: Winchester Rotary’s sponsorship is now £1,000 and not the £500 stated in the video.

This video explains the scheme in some detail; it’s worth a watch to get a good idea of the programme.
