What we do

Fundraising and support

Fundraising is an important part of our activities. Winchester Rotarians, like Rotary Clubs throughout the world, work together to help provide funding for charities, community projects, young people’s organisations, schools and hospitals within our own community and overseas.

We have a deep pool of varied expertise which enables us to raise funds and give practical and professional help where appropriate. The majority of our fundraising events are open to the public – everyone is welcome.

Typically our fundraising events include things such as carol singing in Winchester High Street, concerts, raising funds towards the restoration of our unique, ancient City Mill, a reception and picture auction in aid of the Winchester Hospice Appeal and a Gala Masquerade Ball at Winchester Guildhall, our flagship event for the Hospice Appeal. Our Annual Charity Swimathon raises money for local and international charitable organisations.

Our two flagship events are:

The Clarendon Marathon

Organised in collaboration with Salisbury Rotary, this is our major local fundraising event of the year attracting well over 1,000 entrants and rising annually. This year, it takes place on 1 October. More here.

Bonfire and Fireworks

We support Winchester Round Table to run the sell-out annual local Bonfire and Fireworks night and torchlight parade. This year it takes place on 4 November. More here.

The event raises approximately £80,000, from which Round Table gives a generous donation to our Trust Fund. Every pound goes back into the local community to help charitable organisations. The biggest charity event of the year in Winchester, attracting over 10,000 people, we help Round Table to marshal, sell tickets, carry donation buckets and sell merchandise in the High Street.

Community and social

Rotary is all about bringing people together to make a difference and make connections. Winchester Rotary is a network of neighbours, friends, leaders and problems solvers who work together and take action to create lasting change locally and further afield.

And it’s about so much more than raising money and sharing skills. People often talk about the valued friendships and partnerships which are born out of their Rotary involvement. And business people find the networking and collaboration opportunities of great value including encouraging teams to get involved in events as part of their team-building development. There are so many projects and activities for you to get involved in as part of Rotary. Our impact starts with you.
